Jenny Holzer is a word artist whose relationship with Sunrise Systems includes works at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas (2006), Novartis HQ in Switzerland (2007), and the World Trade Center (2006). Jenny uses LED systems to display meaningful text in public areas. Her work with Sunrise Systems spans more than 500 projects over the entire globe.
Stuart Keeler approached Sunrise for help with a project he was doing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The signs, designed by Keeler to be in an X and O configuration, display money market information in three international languages. Another remarkable feature of the installation is that it is entirely solar powered. See a picture of the “Virtual Exchange” signs in our project gallery.
Simon Donovan and Ben Olmstead
Sunrise worked with Simon and Ben to produce a multi-site installation of LED signs. The project was dubbed “Poetry Bus Shelter” and was located along the bus route to Tucson University in Tucson, AZ. The signs were installed in 11 bus shelters on the route and were purposed specifically to show poetry. The content shown on the poetry signs is controlled by the art dept. of Tucson University.
Ben Rubin/EAR Studio
Ben Rubin collaborated with Sunrise Systems to design a 37-unit LED installation known as The Shakespeare Machine in the Public Theater of New York City. These 2-foot MST displays show lines from all of Shakespeare’s plays, acting as quite the show piece in the lobby bar of the Theater.
